What Is a Student Union?
A student union is a representative institution through which students can collectively raise educational, administrative and welfare concerns. Effective representation can strengthen dialogue and accountability within educational institutions.
Learning Democracy
Participation in elections, debate, representation and accountability gives students practical experience of democratic processes. Student unions can therefore be understood not merely through the politics of protest but also as institutions of civic learning.
Responsible Student Politics
Student politics should remain free from violence, intimidation and intolerance. Differences of opinion are best addressed through argument, dialogue and democratic procedures, helping create a healthier campus culture.
